Peckham Pantry (City vs Sea Community Cup)

In 2023 the Giants and Sussex Swans hosted in inaugural City vs Sea Community Cup with the aim to support local charities and organisations who benefit our communities the most. With Giants at home, the round 4 fixture it meant that we would nominate our selected cause. We are delighted to have partnered with Peckham Pantry who do incredible work within the local Peckham and broader Southwark communities through food banks and the pantry shop:

To support Peckham Pantry we asked each team member to bring along with them a food staple donation along with profits from our bar and BBQ going towards a cash donation. The food donations were delivered on 8th June 2023 with a total of 18 trays worth of donations being handed over. This was an incredible effort and display of generosity from both teams with more than 700 items donated on the day. These items will be available for pantry members to purchase for a nominal fee of £4.50 which they will then be able to chose items worth £15+.

The cup itself was decided on the day by a cumulative score from both games with the end result going the way of Sussex Swans by a mere 9 points (92 vs 83). Chris Price, CEO of the Pecan group who run the Peckham Pantry, was at the game to present the cup to the winning president. Full credit to Sussex, the deserved winners on the day. For the Giants playing against a women's team who play in the Premiership division and their men's being defending Social champions it was always going to be a battle but the progress both teams are making was clear for all to see. 2024 will be a tasty fixture.
