On a wet and humid day we hosted the Demons down on the rye in the battle of the 2 unbeaten teams.
The first quarter started in the rain in a tight contest with the wet and greasy ball hard to get hold of with Wandsworth managing to get off to a quick start with 3 goals. The pressure gauge was high and nothing was coming easy for the demons with ball in our defensive half for a lot of the quarter with Saffa, Bud and Pitbull working hard at the back and Hubert creating a great contest in the ruck. The quarter ended with the demons leading 21-0.
A much tighter contest in the second with the rain still bucketing down. The midfield led by Gus providing a great contest in the middle. We started moving the ball much better but struggled to put it on the scoreboard. In the last minute of the quarter saw a quick play from Dave who seemed to have space all day hit up Geoffo and we quickly had our first goal on the board. The quarter ended up 30-8 to the demons.
The sun came out in the 3rd and the play opened up. Boomer working hard up forward before eventually breaking through a pack to put the second on the board. Stu was running up and down on the wing all day and Pat solid at the back providing some great rebound. Another tight quarter but couldn’t quite convert our chances going forward and the demons lead 43-15 at ¾ time.
The last quarter was a tough battle with everyone giving their all. A big shoutout to Saeed who toiled hard in the ruck against a tough opponent in his second game. Demons were the slightly better team on the day running out victors 63-15. Next week back against the demons with a chance at redemption.
