A perfect sunny day on the Rye saw us hosting last years premiers Sussex.

The Giants came out of the blocks quick with Matthew Pert AKA Bon Jovi snagging 3 early goals. Clinton Mathiesen putting it on a plate for the mids with some great tap work out of the middle and Bradley Kent providing plenty of run off the wing. Geoff Mackay popped up for 1 and then Christian Hesse busted through the pack to slot through his first for the club. A strong first quarter ended with a 34-0 lead.

The second quarter saw a slow start giving away a 50 early for an early Sussex goal. After that we started getting on top. General Guy Bud McGrath marshalling the troops up back and not letting anything get through. Mark Tauzon looking strong through the middle all. Some great pressure in the forward line saw a few shots on goal and Geoff Mackay snagging his 2nd. At the half the score 42-6.

Another slow start with a Sussex goal but got back on track as Matthew Pert snagged his 4th . Geoff Mackay and Brett Boyle popped through goals soon after. Stuart Tolley and Toby Shackleton up back were strong and provided some good run. Matthew Pert then put a bag together with his 5th. At ¾ time Giants went in leading 68-12.

A tight tussle in the last saw Patrick Godfrey moved up back for the last quarter saw him controlling the backline well providing some good options. Joseph Aurthur continued to provide run though the middle and hit up Brett Boyle right on the final siren which he slotted for a great end to the day. Final score ended up 76-26.
